While out for our evening walk, Molly and I saw a strange sight. A Blue Heron in a tree. This may be normal behavior but I mostly see Herons standing at the waters edge or in flight. This is the first time I have ever seen one in a tree. It was an odd sight and added a little spice to our walk.

I've put together a "Hike Time Calculator" and posted it HERE. Give it a try and let me if you have any ideas for improving it.

Molly and I decided to do some hiking in Deer Creek Canyon Park today.  With the temperature in the sixties the trailhead was a zoo. We passed no less than 20 people in the first two miles of the hike. Once we were into the canyon where the trail was snow packed and icy the people thinned out nicely and we spent the rest of the day by ourselves. Even with daytime temps into the sixties, old man winter still has a hold on the mountains. Some areas of the trail still had over two feet of snow on them. We hiked about 8 miles total and my GPS says we had a total elevation gain of 1900 ft. I cant wait for spring.
